I wish I had more time

I wish I had more time to learn Spanish. I wish I had more time to start reading books. I wish I had more time to learn guitar. I don't have much time.

The most common excuse we hear is, "I don't have much time".

But what about successful people? How do they find the time? They also have 24 Hours. How do they manage?

Hello Reader, This is Haris, and you are reading the first issue of Mentoraven.

We All Have 24 Hours

Do you know what is similar between You, Me, and Elon Musk?

The same 24 hours. We all have the same 24 hours as Jeff Bezos, Mithali Raj, Mukesh Ambani, Falguni Nayar, and Ankur Warikoo.

All of these successful people are from different backgrounds and skill-sets. But what they all have in common is: that they are among the best in the world at making great use of their time. They spend minimal time on things that don't matter to them.

Not Enough Time?

Not enough time is nothing but a proxy for, "That sounds too hard". - Alex Turnbull

When something sounds tough, it’s so easy to say “I don’t have time for that”, because it makes us feel a lot better than saying “that sounds hard and I don’t want to put in the effort.”

Not having enough time sounds legitimate and Important.

But most of the time, it’s simply not true.

A trick I learned from Alex Turnbull is to replace "I don't have enough time" with, "That's just not important enough for me to do right now."

Trust me, this is very powerful. You'll become more honest about things and will be able to prioritize your tasks. For example, if I have a task pending to do, but I have been delaying it by saying "I don't have time for that". Instead, I would now ask myself, "Is it important enough to do right now?" If yes then I would do it, if not then I would say "That's just not important enough for me to do right now."

How to get extra time?

There's always enough time if you spend it right. It's not about quitting your job or your projects, it's about squeezing out extra time. First of all, stop wasting your time on cravings like Netflix. It does not relieve the stress, it makes our minds numb.

Ever wondered why you couldn't focus on your work after binging 5 episodes? That's because our neurons get numb = no productivity.

Do schedule streaming your favorite shows but within a particular limit and after your important tasks are completed.

When you want something bad enough, you make the time.

Squeeze extra time from your daily routine and work on what you always wanted to. Learn that Instrument. Take that language class. Go out with friends. Work on that crazy business Idea. Take out the time. You do have much time.

Conclusion

  1. Prioritize your tasks.
  2. Stop wasting time on things that don't matter
  3. Replace "I don't have enough time" with, "That's just not important enough for me to do right now."
  4. Schedule and limit your time-consuming [unproductive] activities after the completion of your work.
  5. Squeeze extra time in your day. Wake up 1 hour early, But don't exhaust yourself.
  6. Don't let yourself off the hook with excuses. It's entirely your responsibility to make your dreams come true.
  7. The perfect time never arrives. Act now.

Me and my Whiteboard

When I started my journey as an entrepreneur, I always wondered If I could have that latest MacBook Pro, then I would have been on another level. But with time and this book, I understood the meaning of the famous guitarist saying, "Tone is in your fingers." Tone You can buy the same guitar, pick, and amplifier that Jimi Hendrix uses, but as you'll be hitting up that string, you'll sound like YOU. Likewise, Jimi Hendrix could pick up any random cheap guitar, & still, it will be easy to...

Coffee?

[Hypothetically] You have a deadline to write an essay, so you decide to work on it. You sat down on your desk and opened the notebook. A few minutes later, your phone beeps, your friend has shared a reel. You opened the chat to check it out but ended up scrolling for 15 mins. I am sure something like this has happened to you before. I used to get distracted a lot, and most of the people I meet with tell me that it happens to them far too often. So what to do? Hello Reader, this is Haris &...
